Katte Geneta is a Filipino American artist, weaver, museum director, and founder of Narra Studio.

Kathleen “Katte” Trocino Geneta is a Filipino American artist, weaver, and creative consultant based in New York City and Manila with over fifteen years of professional experience in the fine arts, museum, and non-profit fields. She is the Director of Design and Publications at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York City, a museum and non-profit organization that grants over $1 million annually to gifted architects, artists, writers, and composers.

Born in New York, and raised in New York and Manila, Geneta academically trained in philosophy and painting. Geneta's artwork is in international private collections and has been shown internationally including at Governors Island Art Fair (New York, NY), Trestle Gallery (New York, NY), Chashama - Soho (New York, NY), and Sidespace Gallery (Australia). Her work has been featured on CBS New York, Philippine Inquirer, Manhattan Times, and others. Geneta was awarded a New York State Certificate of Merit for her artwork and was part of the Visiting Artists and Scholars Program at the American Academy in Rome.

Geneta graduated from Harvard University with a master’s degree in museum studies. There, she investigated the history of Philippine objects in American museums and the potential of digital collections and media for inclusivity and collaboration. At Harvard, Geneta was awarded the Dean’s List Certificate for Academic Achievement while working as an exhibiting artist, museum director, and mom. She was also a 2021 Fellow of the SOAS Center of South East Asian Studies and Philippine Studies Mapping Material Culture Project, London, UK, and a class representative of her school for One by One UK and Think Digital! Building Digitally Confident Museums led by Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, NY.

Despite her painting background, Geneta’s study of Filipino textiles brought the most joy in her life in the arts—the rich visual culture, symbols, and artistry of her homeland were reminders of the Philippines woven into cloth. Geneta specializes in fiber arts including handweaving (American colonial, historic), Philippine weaving and craft goods, hand-spinning, embroidery, sewing, among others.

Geneta created Narra Studio, a social enterprise that collaborates with weavers and artisans to share Philippine artistry worldwide. A multi-passionate artist and supporter of the arts, Geneta believes all artists, artisans, and creatives have the right to sustainable livelihood through their art.

Geneta is a member of the Textile Society of America, Complex Weavers, the Oxford Asian Textile Group, HABI the Philippine Textile Council, and the Textile Study Group of New York.
